Mission Statement:
To build
student involvement and interest in various fields of marketing
while strengthening relationships between members and prospective
employers through education, leadership, and experience.
What are we doing this year??
Fall 2005
During the fall semester the UNL-AMA
chapter started the year off right with some great projects and some
fun new membership opportunities. Over the summer we were able to
recruit a few rather large projects to provide our members with some
actual marketing experience and class opportunities.
Westfield Shopping Town “Grand Opening”
We took on the Grand Opening of the
Lincoln Westfield Shopping Town (Gateway) by providing them with 20
AMA interns to assist in the planning and implementation of the
event. The event may not have went as planned but the news had fun
with it and it was a good learning experience for our members. The
internships being offered were exclusive to AMA members and were
paid positions.
Scion Project
Toyota Scion contacted the UNL-AMA chapter
after our recent successes with the GM Project and the Goodyear Case
Competition. We helped Scion set up a class (Mrk 490) here at UNL in
the fall and recruited 25 graduate and undergraduate students to
participate. The semesters research and promotional projects went
off without a hitch and Scion even flew some of their CEOs in from
California for the final presentation.
Our members were also worked on other
projects throughout the semester, including the AMA Case Competition
and a promotional development project held for the Nebraska Speakers
Association. The fall housed the second annual Faculty Pumpkin
Carving and there were plenty of professional development events,
like “Meet the Recruiter”, the Lincoln AMA internship workshop,
résumé / interview workshops, as well as all of our regular meetings
and marketing week madness.
Spring 2006
The spring is also shaping up to be a
memorable and exciting semester for UNL-AMA members. On top of the
events like “Meet the Recruiter” and our workshops that are held
every semester, the UNL-AMA exec team was able to recruit another
project for the Marketing 490 second semester class as well as a
number of other projects.
National Research Corporation was
contacted by an UNL-AMA exec member in that fall but it didn’t take
long to figure out that we may have bit off more than we can chew.
So, we set up the Marketing 490 class to host the project and
started recruiting people for the class. We were also able to set up
some big projects with Douglas Theaters and the Lincoln AMA
Professional chapter. Another big sprig project is the development
of the “Lincoln AMA Mentor Program”. We’re testing out the mentor
program right now with the Lincoln chapter in the hopes that it can
be used on a larger scale in the future.
Our History
University of Lincoln - American Marketing
Association (UNL AMA) became an official chapter of the American
Marketing Association in the fall of 2001. Prior to 2001, UNL AMA
had been the Marketing Club and had not had official affiliation
with the American Marketing Association for several years.
The Marketing Club had 7 official AMA
members in 2000, but that number increased more than 1000% in 2001
to over 100 registered members. That same year, UNL AMA was awarded
for excellence in chapter activities and community service.
Throughout the 2002-2003 academic year, UNL AMA maintained a
membership of nearly 80 members while working with companies
throughout Lincoln, including Union Bank, Pepsi, and Junior
Achievement. UNL AMA was awarded Outstanding Regional Chapter at
the annual awards ceremony, placing this chapter amongst the top 8
chapters nationally.
The 2005-2006 academic year has shown
lower overall membership but greater opportunity for our members.
This year the chapter has volunteered its time and services to
Junior Achievement, the Lincoln Children’s Museum and
CornhuskerPlace. Members can earn class credit through classes
recruited by the UNL-AMA exec team from Scion, National Research
Corporation and through participating in the national case
competition.
UNL AMA offers a range of opportunity for
its members from hands-on experience, to internship, career
opportunities and an exclusive UNL-AMA Mentor Program. It's a great
way to get involved and practice those skills you will be using
professionally one day.
